One of the most active servants of folk song and a tireless worker of the rebetik pentagram, who besides being a successful music composer, is considered one of the greatest bouzouki soloists!
George Georgopoulos was born in Patras in 1955 and started playing music in 1969. He worked as a bouzouki soloist until 1975 in Patras, sometimes with his late brothers Aristos (harmonium) and Theodoris (bouzouki), also masters. musicians, who unfortunately “left this vain world” early.
Then he went to Athens, where he played the first bouzouki next to the biggest names of the folk and rebetiko pentagram: Takis Binis, Prodromos Tsaousakis, Spyros Zagoraio, Kaiti Gray, Poly Panou, Manoli Angelopoulos, Jeni Vanou, Stamatis Gonidis, Themi Adamantidis, Stathis Angelopoulos etc.
At the same time, he worked on composition and has so far released around 300 songs, including several hits with well-known singers. Lyricists with whom he collaborated are Lakis Tsolis, Kostas Kofiniotis, Tasos Oikonomou, Manos Koufianakis, Ilias Filippou, etc.
His songs were recorded by: Doukisa, Giorgos Boulougouras, Manolis Angelopoulos, Rita Sakellariou, Yiannis Vogiatzis, Angela Dimitriou, Stathis Angelopoulos, Lefteris Pantazis and others.
Some of his well-known songs are “Chaméni Politeía”, “Fotiá sta Savvatóvrada”, “Gia thýmisé mou t’ ónoma sou”, etc.Since 2000, he has been actively performing in venues that host rebetika and folk music. In recent years we find him at the music venue “Bakalogatos” in Kaisariani, together with his talented daughter Athena, who stands out as a singer. In his latest personal CD “Paráxeni Kopéla” he plays and interprets old folk and rebetika songs in his own way.
