Manolis Mitsias is a Greek singer. He was born in Doumia, Halkidiki, February 26, 1946.
His first contact with singing and music in his childhood and teenage years was as a singer in the church of his village. Later he was in Thessaloniki for studies, and there he became a member of the choir of the Northern Greece Letters and Arts Club. He made his first public appearance at “Skamnia”, a pastry shop that was next to the “Navarino” cinema in Navarinou square, and had transformed its back space into a boutique. Manolis Mitsias appeared for the first time in this boutique with Andreas Prezas as chief musician on the piano. His first small 45-rpm record was two compositions by Andreas Prezas, one of which became a small hit “Tis Eftychias to nero”. He left “Skamnia”, to continue in the “107” boutique, in the apartment building of Egnatia street number 107. In the 1960s, the Municipality of Moutsis had invited him to his house to rehearse the songs “With a Complaint” and “Avrio Pali”, which was finally performed by Grigoris Bithikotsis. The turning point in his career took place in 1969, with his first hit, the song Once Upon a Time in Eleusis with music by Dimos Moutsis and lyrics by Vassilis Andreopoulos.
He has collaborated with almost all the leading Greek composers Dimos Moutsis, Loukiano Kilaidoni, Manos Hadjidaki, Christos Leontis, Aki Panou, Lino Kokotos, Stavros Xarhakos, Vassilis Tsitsanis, Mario Tokas, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Yiannis Markopoulos, Christos Nikolopoulos, Ilias Andriopoulos , Giorgos Chatzinassios, Yiannis Spanos, Stamatis Kraunakis, Stamatis Spanoudakis. In 1994 he collaborated with Mikis Theodorakis, he has sung lyrics and poetry by Giorgos Seferis, Nikos Gatsos, Manolis Anagnostakis, Lefteris Papadopoulos, Manos Eleftheriou, Eftychias Papagiannopoulou, Lina Nikolakopoulou and performed works by the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. He has collaborated with top performers such as Nana Mouschouri, Nikos Xylouris, Antonis Kalogianni, Sotiria Belou, Maria Farandouri, Dimitra Galani, Vicky Moscholiou, Babis Stokas, Nena Venetsanou, Costa Makedona.
He has appeared in concerts in Greece and Cyprus and sang for Greeks abroad. In the summer of 2009 he celebrated 40 years of presence in Greek music. He has recorded more than 35 personal records and has also participated in recording works of other artists.
