Vangelis Konitopoulos is generally acknowledged to be the greatest active musician and performer of the island song.

He was born in Kinidaros, Naxos in 1953 and is the youngest son of the famous violinist Michalis Konitopoulos (“the baby”) and Maria Phyrogenis, who raised him and lulled him with island songs.

A natural consequence was that at the age of 11 he was singing professionally alongside his father, at 13 he was playing the lute, at 15 the bouzouki and at 16 after he came to Athens and joined the band of his brothers (Irini Konitopoulou-Legaki and Giorgos Konitopoulos) to record the his first 45 rpm record with the song “O Manolios”.

Since then he has sung on 45 major personal records, has participated in 10 records, while he has written about 300 island songs and 50 folk songs. He has collaborated with great artists of the island and not only, such as Aristides Moschos, Yiannis Markopoulos, Nikos Xylouris, Yiannis Parios and many others.
